About

My name is Tara.  I live in Brisbane Australia, and love helping not-for-profit organisations and charities.  I am a fundraiser by day, and moonlight as a cash-poor energy-rich philanthropist by night.  I started this blog as a way to tell or err, spam people about amazing acts of kindness and worthy charitable things going on.  I sincerely hope you enjoy my posts, and hope I encourage you to get involved one day!

    Hi Tara,
Well word of mouth is a great tool and seeing that you mentioned it in your recent email, I thought that I would take the time to read the blog………Well done. The more good information out there the better results we all achieve. I read the article on Charity Fatigue and what was said was right on the money, Unless you have walked a mile in someone else’s shoes you cannot fully understand the feelings, emotions or desperation of the people needing help. Everyone’s experiences are different and if you ever feel like the so called “Fatigue” is setting in, let someone help you with a problem and notice how good that makes you feel and the relief it brings. Then you will know that what you do on a day to day basis to help others gives them an even greater amount of joy……………….and within an instant “Charity Fatigue” disappears and a smile appears.
Keep up the good work. Ty

    Hi Tara,

Karinne told me about your blog – it’s fantastic! I’m sorry we didn’t get a chance to catch up like we planned this year, but as you may have heard I became pregnant not too long after we met and I am now the very proud mum of Luella Rose (she will be 4 weeks old tomorrow). Anyhoo, I think it’s great that you are sharing the love around when it comes to supporting charities and being community minded! I have subscribed to receive updates on this blog and look forward to getting involved with some of your upcoming events and projects for 2012.

    Kate McNally 🙂

Ps. Here’s the link to my favourite charity http://www.foodwatershelter.org.au and I am also already a supporter of Kiva … maybe I could join your group?

  12. Good afternoon, we are writing on behalf of The Hive 4101, an organisation which works towards breaking social isolation and to build a sense of community for people who are homeless in Brisbane. One initiative is the South Brisbane’s People’s Market that provides fresh and organic fruit and veg for great prices as well as opportunities for development of skills and experience for people from disadvantaged backgrounds such as homelessness. We would appreciate spreading the word about this social enterprise. Thank-you, please feel free to contact us.

Hi Tara, I’ve been following your blog for months, and love the post you just did about Mothers Day gifts that give twice. I recently started a social enterprise called Gifts4Good (www.gifts4good.org.au) – it’s an online shopping portal where all purchases earn free charity donations or contribute directly to a community cause. I love hearing what other social enterprise retailers are up to as well, and getting inspiration for our own lists of gift ideas, so please keep sharing charity gift ideas! Thanks and best wishes, Alison.

I stumbled on your blog via the Aussie Bloggers facebook group. 🙂

You might already know about this project, but just in case I thought you might like K-TAG. It’s a project set up by a gorgeous woman named Sophie Weldon that is all about passing on good deeds.

  16. Hi Tara

My wife Yas Grigaliunas mentioned I should touch base with you about an annual event we have coming up on the 9th & 10th October 2015 called the World’s Biggest Garage Sale (#WBGS2015); I think you might have accepted a blog piece from Yas last year? We’re getting into full swing here now having just confirmed the loan of a 5000sqm industrial premises in Cooper Plains, just 14km south of Brisbane’s CBD.

I/we are happy to write a blog article or assist you with the creation of one (or more) by providing press releases and the like. With the new venue having two times the space we had last year, we’re in desperate need of everything associated with this type of event, donors for stock (general public and corporate), volunteers and corporate support on both of those fronts. Any assistance you can provide in helping us get more of any/all of these would be greatly appreciated.

    Leigh

    Hi Tara,

LOVE your blogs, what a great way to educate the community about what’s going on and how people can get involved!

I would love to get in touch about a charity event we have coming up in October. It’s called the YMCA Rat Race and includes a fun, 8km obstacle course race raising money for the School’s Breakfast Program. This program provides healthy breakfasts to school children that would otherwise go to school hungry (unfortunately this is about 25% of Australian children). We currently provide breakfast to 80 schools around the Brisbane/Logan region, but are hoping to expand to even more schools in 2017.

We would be incredibly grateful if you could share a blog about the YMCA Rat Race and our School’s Breakfast program. I would be happy to submit the blog and relating images.

Let me know if you would like any further information or are happy to help us and this great cause!

    Thank you for your consideration,
    Ali

    Hi Tara,

We have stumbled onto your posts and we wanted to touch base 🙂
we work with so many fundraisers and charities with our shopping tours as it is a fun & unique way to fund raise! But we also wished to mention that we run 4 special tours each year fundraising our selves for a different chosen Charity each year, one of our favorites is Dress for Success (we encourage any of our ladies joining our tours to bring any good quality clothing they are looking to donate) we operate our tours in Brisbane & the Gold Coast.
    thank you for your work!
    Kindest regards
